About Us

Get To Know Jesus Missionary Baptist Church is a Christ-centered church committed to worship, discipleship, service, prayer, and community.

Our Mission

The mission of GTKJ MBC of Durham, NC is the same mission Jesus gave his followers.  Matthew 28:19-20. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

The vision of GTKJ MBC of Durham, NC, is to create a community of authentic believers and to witness to a city transformed by the life-changing reality of the gospel as people come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Ministry History

Get to Know Jesus Missionary Baptist Church was born out of a burden to share the gospel, teach the Word of God, and help people grow in a true relationship with Jesus Christ.

In 2014, Missionary Marvin L. Wiggs began a weekly telephone Bible ministry with friends and family across the United States. What started as a small gathering of believers and seekers became a consistent time of prayer, Bible study, encouragement, and gospel teaching. Through this ministry, several books of the Bible and many biblical topics were taught, and lives were touched through the message of Jesus Christ.

In 2016, Missionary Wiggs accepted the call to ministry and began preparing more formally for the work God had placed on his heart. That same year, he was licensed to preach and began serving through preaching opportunities in churches while continuing theological studies and ministry training.

With a growing burden for souls in North Carolina, Missionary Wiggs and his wife, Sister Lanette Clay Wiggs, prayerfully sought the Lord’s direction concerning gospel outreach in the Raleigh-Durham area. After visiting North Carolina in 2018 and participating in outreach efforts across several communities, the need for continued gospel work became clear.

In May 2019, the Wiggs family moved from Fresno, California, to Durham, North Carolina, to begin establishing a New Testament Church, starting as New Beginning Missionary Baptist Mission, now Get to Know Jesus MBC. Trusting God by faith, they began community outreach and started holding services in their home. The ministry began with a small group gathering for Sunday worship, Bible teaching, and prayer.

Like many ministries, the work was deeply affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Although in-person plans were interrupted, the ministry continued through telephone calls, Zoom, Facebook, and other online platforms. During this time, the gospel continued to be shared, prayer continued, and the church remained committed to reaching souls for Christ.

In 2021, the ministry continued to grow through preaching, teaching, prayer, baptism, and discipleship. Sister Wiggs also began a weekly women’s prayer call, which continues to serve as a source of encouragement and spiritual support.

In 2022, God opened the door for the ministry to move into an affordable building where services and outreach could continue. Through mission outreach, several individuals professed faith in Christ and were baptized. The mission also received encouragement and support from Brother Steve Miller and Sister Debbie Miller, who became a meaningful part of the work.

In 2023, the ministry expanded its outreach by beginning regular preaching services at Zebulon House, an assisted living community in Zebulon, North Carolina. This ministry enables Get to Know Jesus MBC to encourage residents, share the Word of God, and remind each person of their value in the Lord’s eyes.

In 2024, the Lord continued to bless the ministry. Get to Know Jesus MBC was able to attend the annual messengers meeting in Springfield, Illinois, receive continued encouragement from fellow laborers in the faith, and receive a 15-passenger van through the Macedonian Missionary Service. This van has become a blessing by helping transport individuals to worship services and ministry activities.

Today, Get to Know Jesus Missionary Baptist Church remains committed to preaching the gospel, teaching biblical truth, serving the community, and reaching souls with the message of salvation through Jesus Christ. Our desire is to help people move beyond religion alone and come to know the Savior personally.

We thank God for every door He has opened, every life He has touched, and every opportunity He continues to provide for this ministry.
